      <image:title>Work - The Challenge</image:title>
      <image:caption>Overtime, the Harlem United Website became difficult to maintain due to the volume of pages and content. For users, the website was challenging to navigate and locate key information. To address these challenges, a new website architecture was developed with clear pathways drawn for potential clients to learn more about Harlem United’s mission, locate programs and services, and to donate.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - Background</image:title>
      <image:caption>Harlem United was established in 1988 in response to providing support to those dying from AIDs. Today, Harlem United provides world-class HIV care and has expanded services to address several other needs in their community. With increased services and a need for expanded funding, Harlem United was looking to redesign its website to boost donations and increase awareness of its presence in the community.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - Ease of use and accessibility</image:title>
      <image:caption>Improving navigation and user experience was a key goal for this website redesign. Developing a clear pathway for new clients to access and request services was an important aspect of the “Get Care” page. Previously, to request services a new client had to fill-in a long form. This form was recreated into an interactive card design, which includes images, a short description, and easy way to check-off the services needed.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - Digital Coloring Feature</image:title>
      <image:caption>With the success of the coloring sheets during CFR week, a digital coloring feature was introduced onto the CFR website. With this addition, children can color directly on their ipads and computer or they can browse the library of sheets to download and print at home.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - Background</image:title>
      <image:caption>City’s First Readers was formed through the New York City Councils Early Literacy Initiative with the goal of providing early literacy resources to children in low income neighborhoods. To support this work, City’s First Readers was in need of a website that allowed parents/caregivers to easily search for programs and activities their child may need. Other needs of the website included tools and features for increased engagement, and easy pathways for parents/caregivers to learn more about CFR partners.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58e50f09bf629a6823ba9fe9/472da897-9ad4-4765-890a-6478bdcc4e4f/centralpark_mom%26baby2.png</image:loc>
      <image:title>Work - Visual Design</image:title>
      <image:caption>As mentioned earlier, the original City’s First Readers website was only a calendar page with limited detail. The branding also was limited, with simply the CFR logo and two brand colors (blue and orange). It was important that the updated website’s visual design was more child friendly and inclusive/representative of NYC. To address these needs, a third color (yellow) was introduced to brighten and warm the palette. Secondly, a set of character illustrations were introduced. These illustrations can be seen on each website page, they feature a parent/caregiver with a child paired with a backdrop of a typical NYC scene. Lastly, the pattern on each website page also includes elements of NYC, such as street signs (ex: one way). This brand refresh can be seen throughout the campaign materials below as well.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - The Challenge</image:title>
      <image:caption>The City’s First Readers (CFR) website only featured a calendar which included events sourced predominately from local library branches. While this allowed parents and families to locate local events in their neighborhood, it did not provide further information about the resources, activities, and programming offered by the 17 CFR partners. To address this, the website was redesigned to feature an interactive search bar, modeled after fill-in-the-blank. The search bar would allow families to locate activities offered by the CFR partners.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>As part of the emergency response to COVID-19, LWDA was tasked with slowing the spread of COVID-19 in high-risk industries across California. LWDA launched a campaign to educate both workers and employers on California health and safety protocols and workers’ rights related to paid sick leave. Working closely with Community Based Organizations (CBO’s), a series of materials were developed to help spread awareness and provide educational resources to workers in need.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - Retaliation Booklet</image:title>
      <image:caption>A follow-up resource need to the retaliation pocket guide was the retaliation booklet. While the pocket guide’s goal was to inform workers what retaliation could look like and when to take action, the booklet was a step-by-step resource to guide workers on how to file a complaint if and when they need to. The booklet was designed to be accessible by making use of easy to understand language and the same character illustrations from the pocket guide. Similar to prior materials, this booklet was translated into multiple languages.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - Retaliation Pocket Guide</image:title>
      <image:caption>A critical component of labor rights that needed to be further understood was retaliation and what that could look like. Once more, working closely with CBO’s a second pocket guide was developed, however, this time in wallet size. Understanding that retaliation could be difficult to detect, this wallet card features a comic of a scenario that depicts an act of retaliation. Using illustrations and accessible language, the goal of this guide was to not only educate workers on their rights but empower them with knowledge so they can report any act of wrongdoing by their employer.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - Background</image:title>
      <image:caption>NYACH was formed in 2011 as a collaboration between the NYC Workforce Funders and the NYC Department of Small Business Services. Since 2011, NYACH and its partners have worked together and even more so in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, to address the issues in our healthcare system. Approaching its 10-year anniversary, NYACH and its partners wanted to release a report that not only celebrates their anniversary, but also summarizes their work and mission. Along with a digital report design, NYACH required a full website update that would mirror the report.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58e50f09bf629a6823ba9fe9/430d51ff-a4eb-43a1-8817-f46f4b615a4d/NYACH_website-cover.jpg</image:loc>
      <image:title>Work - The Website</image:title>
      <image:caption>The goal of the website was to emulate the information and data that was covered in the report. To translate the report to a website, much of the copy was modified to be easier to ingest while still being informative. Visually, NYACH opted for a minimalist modern look so that the content was what took priority. To achieve this, the website features clean line elements with a focus on typography. While the report was a static document, the website also became an opportunity to reimagine much of the data and infographics in the report as more interactive features of the website.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58e50f09bf629a6823ba9fe9/10b5dd4e-3049-4bd2-84a0-d49bf7435d2c/NYACH_report-cover.jpg</image:loc>
      <image:title>Work - The Report</image:title>
      <image:caption>The design of the report needed to take into account several types of visual elements in addition to the dense copy. In order to do that, each type of content was defined so that the appropriate visual element or template could be developed for it. For instance, a large aspect of the report was case studies, therefore, a template was designed for that. There were also several charts, graphs, and other infographics that would support the content of the report. Given the length of the report (70 pages), it was important that there were enough visual breaks placed appropriately to support the reader and ensure the content was easy to follow.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - Barbell Infographic</image:title>
      <image:caption>The most detailed chart in the anniversary report is the barbell chart (pg 15 in report). This chart depicts a key challenge in healthcare workforce development looking at number of low and high paying jobs, educational requirements, projected employment, and annual wages. Translating this chart for the website presented the opportunity to break this chart down. As you scroll through the infographic, specific elements of the chart are highlighted and further details are provided. This allows a reader to follow step-by-step and understand how each data piece informs the overall chart and story.</image:caption>
